Cricketing fans rejoice, for the Pakistan Super League is back! Fans are anxiously waiting for PSL 2024 to start and watch their favorite stars in action. It’s that time of the year once again when fans from all around the nation get together to see which city will earn the bragging rights to be called the champions of the Pakistan Super League.
With less than a month to go, the sixth edition of the beloved Pakistan Super League has everyone excited. PCB will announce more details regarding PSL 2024, including the draft ceremony and fixtures for the tournament. From PSL 2024 schedule to ticket details, we will be with you every step of the way; providing all the details for the Pakistan Super League.
PSL 2024 format will be similar to last year’s format. In PSL 2024, six teams will compete against each other to win the prestigious Pakistan Super League and claim bragging rights for their city. PSL 2024 will also host all 34 matches in Pakistan, strengthening the revival of international cricket at home. Lahore, Karachi, Multan, and Rawalpindi are the venues selected for this year’s PSL. Although Quetta and Peshawar were set to the two new venues featured this year but unfortunately, that will not be happening due to the recent COVID-19 conditions.
Lahore and Karachi will host the most matches of PSL 2024. The opening ceremony venue of PSL 2024 is yet to be determined place.
The six teams of PSL will select and officially announce their squads for the sixth edition of PSL following the PSL Drafts. The draft ceremony will take place in Karachi in January. Fans can expect to see close matches in this year’s PSL as some very big names are set to feature in PSL 2024.
Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi, and Islamabad United are the only consistent teams in the Pakistan Super League, with the latter being the only side to have won the PSL twice. These three sides have topped the PSL points table more than any other franchise. In PSL 2020, Multan Sultans finished on top in the PSL points table followed by the Karachi Kings. The Kings surprised everyone as they went on to win their first-ever PSL, defeating arch-rivals Lahore Qalandars.
Lahore Qalandars have failed to live up to the expectations of their fans. Their performance against Peshawar Zalmi is 2019 was their worst as they managed to only score 59 runs. This is the lowest total in PSL history. However, last year, the Qalandars gave an impressive performance as they reached the finals for the first in PSL. Their fans are praying for better results this year and hopefully a championship victory.
PSL 2024 Format
Much like last year, PSL 2024 tournament will be played in a double round-robin format. Each team will play two games with each other (with home and away condition). The top four teams in the PSL points table will move forward in the tournament to compete in the Playoffs stage. The two teams who finish below the top 4 will be eliminated from the tournament. Pakistan Super League will follow all the rules and regulations issued by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
PSL 2024 Points Criteria
In the group stages of the PSL 2024, Two-points will be awarded to the winner of the match. One-point will be awarded to both sides if a match ends as a no-result. Teams will earn no point for losing a match in this year’s PSL. If a match ends on a tie then Super Over will determine the winner of the match. If the Super Over also ends on a tie then the team with the most boundaries will automatically win the match. The teams in the PSL Points Table will be ranked according to the following criteria.
- The team with the maximum number of points in the group stage will earn top position in the PSL points table.
- If two or more teams are tied on points in the group stage then the team with a better run rate will automatically earn the top spot above the other team in the PSL points table.
- If two or more teams are tied on points as well as share the same net run rate in the group stage then the team with the most number of wins will be ahead of the other team in PSL points Table
- If two teams are still equal on points (same net run rate and number of wins) in the group stage then the head to head results between the two sides will determine the top position in the PSL points table.
The top 4 teams in the table with the most points will go into the next stage of the tournament, which is the playoffs. If any playoff match ends in a tie then a super over between the two sides will determine the team that advances to the next stage. If a super over also results in a tie then the team that finished the higher in the points table of the group stage will automatically advance to the next round of the tournament.
