Dimitar Berbatov was thrilled to see Mason Greenwood recreate his famous ‘Berbaspin’ move against West Ham in last night’s FA Cup fifth round tie against West Ham.

The prodigious Manchester United forward has endured a difficult season thus far and struggled to hit the heights of his breakthrough campaign.

Greenwood, however, gave a glimpse of his unquestionable talent during the closing moments of the first-half against the Hammers, bamboozling veteran midfielder Mark Noble.

The teenager showed immaculate control, using his chest and thigh, to keep the ball, which fell out of the sky, within reach and with his back to Noble, proceeded to rotate 360 degrees and nutmeg his opponent in the process, before sprinting off into the distance.

Greenwood’s outrageous skill was reminiscent of the way in which Berbatov flummoxed James Collins to set-up Cristiano Ronaldo for a goal against the same opposition back in 2008.

Although Greenwood’s display of fleet-footedness failed to create a goal, Berbatov congratulated the England international on social media, while Rio Ferdinand was also quick to praise the youngster and offer his condolences to the embarrassed Noble.

He wrote on Twitter: ‘I love you Nobes but Maceeey Maceeeey wow!’

United eventually progressed to the quarter finals courtesy of Scott McTominay’s goal in extra-time. And although Greenwood had left the field before the Scotland international’s decisive intervention, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was delighted with his young forward’s over display.

He said: ‘Mason did really well, he played well,’ Solskjaer told the post-match press conference.

‘We were managing his minutes, of course he’s played the last three from the start, I think.

Anthony [Martial] didn’t play the last game so we wanted him to complete the game. ‘Marcus [Rashford], we wanted to keep him for the counter threat, of course, his pace. Mason was really positive tonight.’
