Dhawan reacts after being awarded the man of the match | IPL 2021 Live

Delhi Capitals were one of the strong favourites of this competition and they have announced their arrival in style. They started their IPL 2021 campaign with a bang as they defeated Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

CSK posted 188/7 with the help of Suresh Raina’s 54, Moeen Ali’s 36 and Sam Curran’s 34. Chris Woakes and Avesh Khan took 2 wickets apiece for Delhi Capitals. In reply, DC got off to a blistering start to the game in the form of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw.

The duo added a 138-run opening partnership. Shaw scored 72 off 38 balls with the help of 9 fours and 3 sixes whereas Dhawan scored 85 off 54 balls. Dhawan’s innings included 10 fours and 3 sixes.

CSK did their best to stop DC but they failed to keep them in check. Shardul Thakur picked up 2 wickets to his name but he himself conceded 53 runs in 3.4 overs.

Dhawan was named the man of the match for his scintillating batting performance. The southpaw was at his fluent best in the match against CSK. He also scored a match-winning century against CSK in the 2020 season.

While speaking to the broadcaster at the post-match presentation, Dhawan said: “I really enjoyed my batting. Was enjoying the way I was hitting the ball. Prithvi was batting really well. He carried on with his form from Vijay Hazare. It was important to get off to a good start because we were chasing a big total.

I have to innovate a few shots and I enjoy taking up challenges. I was playing the ball close to the body. The wicket was a little sticky. I knew my game plan. It is tremendous to watch Prithvi.

He played some effortless shots. So good and so happy for him as he didn’t have a good IPL last time around. I liked the Moeen Ali catch the most.”
